Find a licensed EV charger installer who actually calls back
Getting a Level 2 charger installed shouldn't mean chasing electricians who ghost quote requests, comparing quotes that swing by thousands of dollars, or risking an unlicensed job that fails inspection.
How to find the right installer
- Verify the license. Look the electrician up on your state contractor/electrical licensing board site before booking.
- Get 3 quotes. Ask each to itemize charger, labor, materials, permit and any panel work (see the cost guide).
- Insist on a permit. A Level 2 install is a new 240V circuit; it normally needs an electrical permit and inspection.
- Ask about load management before agreeing to a panel upgrade.
- Know your options. Some EV makers steer you to a preferred installer network—you can usually still hire any licensed electrician.
